I have to say, I thought a ban was a bit OTT for the guy in the clio - as if the copper had pulled over earlier, he would have had a due care and attention (and they passed an exit - so his excuse of nowhere safe to pull him didnt really wash!) so probably 6 points max, as it was the guy in the clio got mad, put his foot down and ended up with a ban.

Im not condoning the way the guy drove (tailgaters annoy me too!) but had the cop pulled him earlier he would most likely have kept his licence (and who can comment on what effect an unmarked 3-series doing as little as 27mph in lane 2 of a D/C could have on any of us, especially when youre in a hurry!)

Not wanting to wind people up, just an opinion...

Btw doing over 100mph in a 60, tailgaten within about 6 inches and all on police camera i thought he would have got more than 6 months. I know if it was me (which it wouldnt be) i would be expecting a year and a handfull of points etc

Very true - although he was only doing that after being behind the Beemer for a good while, and the copper eventually letting him past. My point really was that Im not condoning the way he reacted in any way - he did drive like a prat, but had the copper identified himself as an unmarked car earlier he would have prevented the guy dissappearing off at 100mph and undertaking the other car - almost seemed as though the copper had decided to sit there for a bit having seen the guy tailgating then light the blue touch paper and do him for everything he could. He could just have easily signalled that he was an unmarked car at that point and escorted the guy to a safe place to stop while he was in front.

But why should he?

The copper has every right to follow the guy for as long as possible. The whole point of the unmarked cars is to monitor how people drive when they think the cops arent around... so why not follow him for a while and stiff him for every offence he commits!

As well, if you noticed, when he was tailgaiting the copper they were in some sort of roadworks cos there were cones on the outside of the fast lane so 27Mph probably wasnt as slow as you would have thought.

i think its better that people like that arent on the roads!

I like the back end of my valver(even if it is a little scabby with rust!!!!) and i like to think that if it i ever had kids (lets hope not eh ;) ) i would feel safe in putting them in the back seat of my car! cos i certianly wouldnt if he was following me!!!

Definitely agree that the guy was driving pretty terribly... really wouldnt want him behind me, and take the point about kids in the car...
Was really just thinking had it been me in his shoes (well, I wouldnt have been tailgaiting, but you get the idea) I would have been gutted that he hadnt pulled me earlier, and allowed me to carry on driving like that after the initial offence...
Although I do see shortys point - and fair play to the copper for throwing the book at him after his little display...
Must be a first though really - someone caught tailgating and its a 3-series being tailgated (bet he had the front fogs on though:p)

i saw it.it just does my head in cost they dont punish these peeps compared to what they would in america.

Any they still drive again onced theyve been banned

Not to sound like a complete K N O B but loads of people Drink & Drive, doesnt make it right...

I hear your argument, but, if as your avatar suggests, you do drive a 16v then the size of your brakes coupled with your ABS would help you to bring your car to a halt a damn sight quicker than his 1.4RT from a tonne, as your car is built for them speeds. His isnt. Your car will feel fine at a tonne, his will be shaking and rattling and very light on the steering!!!! ( iv had both )

It still doesnt make it right though and i shouldnt see why breaking traffic law like that should be deemed to be any different to breaking other laws.

After all we are quick enough to lay into lowlife chavvy scum that break into our much loved motors but even quicker to defend that kind of appalling driving.

Rant over, sorry if i bored or offended anyone!

No worries mate. I wasnt condoning his behaviour, just commenting that that d/c is reknowned for speeders. I didnt see enough of the footage to comment on what the rest of his driving was like as I caught it late. Well done to the copper for pulling the tailgater as well though.
