hi guys.
both top mounts are in this condition worn quite badly.
just wondering if the problem is the shocks or the top mounts.

Thats normal when you turbo the wheel to one side the twist and the go at an angel.

Difficlt to explain juts turn the wheel full lock and look.

any pointers as to why top mounts have such a gap?
and could it possibly be shocks?
whats the test for shocks?
i aint got any knocking or banging.
two front bearings gone though!
can get shocks for £112 g-max crap.
or the top mount kit from gsf for £45 plus vat.
would like to know if its one or the other.
cheers.

They have a gap because they are meant to. They aren't meant to sit flush with the wheelhouse. They have a lip on them purely to stop the strut assembly falling through the bodywork when the suspension is unloaded.

  Lots of Alfas
The gap is perfectly normal, theres nothing wrong with it mate. The gap allows for the difficult angle the strut goes when the wheels are turned. The bit you need to worry about is the rubber in the turret and the bearing plate. If its not knocking or banging they are fine.

If youve seen other some 182s/V6s with the washer fitted the gap is twice that!!

The only thing you need to worry about it getting your wheel bearings done.
