Shocks

  Clio 197
I thinking changing them soon the standard to sport shocks, I want improved handling & better going in corner.

Which one is the best one & good for money??

My clio is mk2 ph1 & I want to keep my new Apex springs 40mm, just need some shocks

Cos I don't know alot about suspension:eek:

Thanks

:)

Coilovers are the only way to make your corner better as you'd lower the ride height and have stiffer springs. Fk's are £450 or so I think.

Bleistein do a replacment damper setup for £170 or so. Which is cheaper than Renault. There B4 etc are for uprated springs tough and push the price up more to about £300 in which case you might as well look at coilovers IMO.

Surely you dont have to buy coilovers to make the car corner better? It corners better with the -40mm apex springs i should hope? As apposed to standard that is.

I'm just thinking of money thats all, i lowered my clio -60mm on new shocks and springs, not coilovers and it handles waaaaaaaay better than standard by faaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrr.

Why dont you consider buying apex shocks to go with your springs?

^^ thanks...but I want somethings to spend about £200:)
Blisteion B2 replacments then there no hardeer thans tock infact in my car there softer than the old stock ones IMO. Then again my car was very firm compaired to all other none RS I've driven.

Standard Renault shocks are cheap too, just renewing them will make it feel better :)

The Blistein B2 are cheaper hence why I used them they were £150 or £170 verses over £200 for Renault.

Springs make the difference not shock they make the ride good. (we will ignore the effect that tyres/wheels/tracking/ARb etc as these stay the same) if you want to go round bends faster assuming the dampers arn't so bad that there meaning the speeds are limited as the wheel is going up and down all the time you need to go lower. A side effect of this is stiffer springs often which mean when going round bends the wheel stays more horizondal or negative in camber so the grip is more.

Giles before you buy some shocks measure your hub spacing. Most mk2s have 58mm spacing which apex& that cater for. However some (mostly mk2ph1s 1.2s) have 52mm hub spacing so kits like the apex or bilstein wont fit the front unless you change the hubs. Ive got 52mm spacing on mine and the only shocks I can find are spax, buy Ive heard bad things about them.

Ah right, I was quoted 160 (well just under) for all four Renault shocks.

95% percent chance they wont Giles. Does anyone have a clio thats on lowered shocks with 52mm hubs?

They will sell them in a few sizes i know Fk used to make 52mm coilovers and Blistein do.
Even if they don't 58mm hubs are a direct easy fit.

Giles, drop Brun a pm he works for motorworld and will be able to help you, make sure you tell him your bolt spacing after you have measured it to be on the safe side though :)

my clio is 52mm spacing lowered PI shocks and springs they make both 58 and 52mm bolt spacings on their shocks and they seem great too!

I thought the bolt spacing was the space of the hole where the bolt goes ?? isn't that what your meant to measure (could be totally wrong though pmsl)

Giles drop Fred a pm and ask him what you should be measuring ?? :)
