Short Shifter fitting

Just received a lovely looking short shifter from MB Performance this morning which im going to be writing a review about once its fitted but as I havnt fitted one before how hard are they to fit?

From the instructions it looks to be quite a simple job, helpful that there are pictures along the way to! I do however need to purchase some circlip pliers.

Any tips or anything I should be looking out for when I attempt to fit it at the weekend? Its going onto a 172 ph2.

Cheers
Dan

Might not be fitted by the weekend, im not sure if im going to have time tbh.

I'v never fitted one before but I imagine its one of those things that just makes sense when your doing it sorta thing. I'm pretty certain youd need access to the under carridge a set of axel stands would be handy

Alright, I was just gunna ask the best way to remove the standard shifter and also any problems to look out for?

Is there an easy way to get the circlip off? Do I have to remove any heat shields?

its easy enough, the fiddly part is removing the circlip, i use long nose pliers to get them out as my circlip pliers wouldn't fit

Get the knob off yet ?

I'm supposed to be calling Maurice this week for the shifter, i'll be following your thread .
I've heard it to be excellent ; it's been independantly tested against others on the market right now and came out best.

Still it's what speed the synchros can handle at the end of the day... but the OEM shifter is like stirring in a pan of thick SOUP , this should be a real improvement

hi there, how much did you pay for it?

general view is that the short shift puts too much stress on the tranny? surely JC-5 is not the toughest part of RS. Hope you enjoy it but you gotta be careful I think.

otherS? there's only the B&M i believe!

Might be for the RS, you're probably right ; on the Dutch Reno forum, which in general is used by GT-5 drivers, this was stated
On the MB site there's also a bit on a Rally team that drive GT 5 turbo fitted with this shifter and supposably it really helped winning.

By the way, where are all the English GT5 turbo drivers ? It seems to be much more "alive" in Holland ..

Even less movement, maurice said its best not to fit them on the 172 though I think...?

Going to try and fit this beast tomorrow :) Pics as I go along, lets hope I can get the original knob off and not break the circlip!

He also told me about the pin... i think it has something to do with the original allready being right ; clip is more for other model Renaults (old gt5's) ... something in this matter
