should i be worried?

  3 Series touring
hi there,
basically here is my issue, looking though the haynes manual for my clio i realised that it should have a cover over what i think is the gear box/rod,
gear.gif

now it looks like the one in the 1.4 picture, so i dont think its gonna make much difference whether its there or not, but just wanted to check , also the bit in the centre of the orange box is covered in oil (presumable to stop it siezing up?) ...
whats the deal with this metal cover then , have i lost it on a speed bump somewhere??

cheers
Ben

Its just a plastic skid guard, its nothing to worry about, not all the cars had them. You could get one from a scrappies if you want one, they only clip on. Or you could fit the 172/182 skid guard which covers the whole underneath of the engine bay.
