Should i Fit Or Sell? *Second Thoughts on custom bonnet*

  Clio dci 80 2005
Hi all,

Recently i bought a 2005 Renault DCi 80, which has a bit of a euro/vw look about it..

It came with a custom bonnet, which had been custom made for the car, It was sanded back, rusted, airbrushed 'hoodride', then clear coated over, so its now smooth, and can be polished...

I think it would look ace on my car, but my family / mrs are giving me a bit of stick about it, with the famous words 'its not a vee-dub'.. .lol

I am planning on getting some dished wheels on the car, and with the coilovers on, i think it could pull off the look.. What do you guys think?

Im in two minds wether to fit it, or to put it on flea bay... :S

My Car..

And the sexy bonnet...(or at least i think it is)...

Would have to put a lot of work into making your car anything like 'HoodRide' haha..

If your not sure what it means its basically, an old rusty beat up PoS car.. I'm sure yours don't fall into that category..

Tbh I actually like it but I wouldn't think it would look right on a newer Clio..

Car would need to be battered to suit it mate, so unless you intend on driving the clio in the pics above into walls/hedges and whatever else you can find to damage it then I'd sell it on.

As above, I like it too, just not on the newer Clio's.

What are your plans for the car? If your going for the Euro look keep it discreet.

I reckon it could work, but will need a lot more than just a drop and some wheels to pull it off IMO.

MINT Bonnet i love it, however................

Not meaning to sound harsh but the 'Rat' look only really works on cars that are of a "show" standard and is added as a final touch.

I think it would just look plain crap on yours imo. So it's a no from me!

got to ask, lacquer over rust, how long will that really last before bubbles up/needs relacquering

  Clio dci 80 2005
lol seems to look like the lacquer is spot on, perfectly smooth, so i think that aslong as its sealed, it will stop the rust from rusting (if it makes any sence)...

As for the car, i plan on getting some big old school dishes on there, the car is mint, and has had a lot of decent stuff done to it so far, and i will be wanting to get it into show standard, as pretty much all the cars i have had have been on stands etc (although mainly for engine conversions, however engine wise this one will stay standard)...

Just need to do some work on the interior to get her upto show standard.

I thought it would look pretty cool with the exterior being mint, and it being such a new car compared to an A reg golf... Think i may put it on fleabay, and if it doesnt sell il put it on in the warmer weather, once i have my other mods sorted..

Cheers :D

has the bonnet been on a car?

be really suprised if that lacquer sticks well, rust being rust, the oxidisation had already started, will only spread id of though (same as botched repairs painted over, eventually bubble up), or how well does lacquer adhere to rust.

personally, id have it on fleabay, IMO wouldnt suit the car anyway.

It was on the car for a good month or two, due to a carbon fibre one being removed and sold. This bonnet was a bit of a project apparently, and was done by a professional body shop as a bit of fun, who the previous owner of my car knew. The lacquer has actually stuck really well and sealed it as far as i can see / feel, it looks like a standard car panel thats been polished, glass smooth.

I cant see why with it being sealed, and plenty of coats of polish it couldnt stay in the condition it is in now. As air, water and road salt feed rust and make it spread, as the bonnet seems to be air tight sealed, i cant see any where where any of the above can gain acess to feed the rust... I could be wrong.

I know it wont suit the car in the current state, as the car looks kinda standard at the moment due to the guy removing the split rims from the car, and replacing it with the standard wheels, before i bought her. There are a few subtle mods here and there, and a good drop on the coilovers (which you cant really see with the angle i took the pic), but wheels are a big factor at the moment.

Ive put it on the bay to see what happens with it, but like i say if it doesnt sell il try it out once i have managed to source some retro dished wheels.

no no no in so many ways, hoodride/ratting should not be faked/forsed on a car that is only a few years old, would just look out of place on its own.
i always thought rat is ment to be a flat rusty look not polished up like that.........

It doesn't need to be full on Rat just to have a rusty bonnet. I've seen a few VWs with a single panel completely rusted with the rest of the car totally mint. Looks quite cool IMO.

Thats the look i was thinking as i wasnt looking to get a hammer and grinder out to the other panels of my car lol... If it doesnt sell il fit it and get a picture up and see what you all think, its just super cold outside, so trying to avoid working on the car atm lol...
