..Im pretty sure that the rf modulator would be illegal in this country... Id bear that in mind...

Yeah im in the UK! What is an RF modulator, how does it work and why is it illegal? is it the same sort of thing as the iTrip unit for the Apple iPod

..Im assuming that it somehow transmits data to that remote thing over FM - Americans dont have a problem with that because they have "unlicensed" free-for-all FM frequencies, something which we dont have in the UK.

Hence you tend to get a lot of stuff like that in the US which is illegal to use in UK, like i said, Id check exactly what it is before making a decision....(Last thing you want is to start transmitting songs to nearby ambulances and the like!)

guys a FM modulator is completely legal to use and own over here because ur not transmittin a signal technically....

basically what happens is a little box of tricks connects into ur aerial feed on the back of ur stereo and then is thus connected "in-line" through ur aerial...the little box then has low level inputs (RCA or "phono" connection) and u connect a device with a audio output into it...(such as a standalone CD changer controller)

the little box then "broadcasts" the signal that is being fed into it into ur aerial at a pre determined freqency and then u tune ur radio into that frequency and hay pesto u can hear the signal!

Yeh, modulator changers are completely legal cos they sell them everywhere! That still doesnt mean you should get one! The sound quality is nothing like you would get from one that you can wire into your head unit.

The only advantage I can see from a modulator is that you can have a 10 or a 12 disk changer in your car if the headunit doesnt support it.
