Should i go through my insurance

Got home friday night to find someone had done a hit and run on my little 1.2 16v. Taken out the passenger door completely! the front also appears to have been hit against the curb and unclipped a bit of the bumper and the front splitter. Is it best to get it done by insurers as ive only just got my 1st year NCD by moving to asda which dropped my premium by £1k or fork out and get the whole lot done myself?

Depends if your NCBs are protected - will you keep your 1 year NCB or have start again?

If you have to start again I think the sensible thing would be to get a quote for the damage, then if its over 1ks worth of damage go thru insurance.

In the long run itd probably be better to fork out. Backstreet repair place would be best. Whats your excess?? New door from Renault is comming up as £170+VAT and just the skin is £90. Youd probably be looking at £100-150 to have it painted and hung

You cant protect NCB until u get 4 years i dont think.

you need 4 years to protect it.
id pay myself instead -forget about claiming.
As although its only a years ncd, its not worth jepordising (sp) - plus you will have a claim against you (even though its not your fault)

ok, just got quotes through this morning, an absolute feckin fortune cheapest was £610 plus labour and all that!!!

I cant believe its so damm expensive and i gotta pay!!

Anyone know a good place in herts for a realistic quote is that about as realistic as im gonna get?

mate, sometimes its just better to say f**k it, canny be doing wi the hassle and punting it through the insurance!! (unless its simple and less than your excess).

I give up trying to build up no claims, someone doesnt want me to have any and there is nowt i can do about it lol!! At the end of the day, you pay for insurance, its what its there for. Rob )
