Showing your reg plates on the Forum..

Is it worth saying be careful showing your car reg off as your address can be found easily e-nuff. As there are more than just friendly people watching, and might take a liking to your latest wheels when your not looking.

Just a thought, I could be wrong?

Surley wiht that arguement you shouldnt drive ur car wiht number plates on, people can just as easily see you on the road and get ur address

I dont mind personally, hundreds of people see my plate everyday on the road so I dont really see what the fuss is about unless you say something like "Oh look, my alarm and immobiliser is f**ked" and post a pic of your car, thats just silly.

i suppose showing off a huge install and your reg details could be a bad thing... but nothing worth too much in my valver!!!

or if you post a pic/video of your car, and say look at me doing 135mph on the M1, could perhaps be used as evidence or some smart arse copper might look out for you.

ermmm it aint that easy to get someones address from their number plate?

I thought the main reason was to stop people with the same car using clone plates so they dont get done in speed traps etc.

Driving your car is one thing, if they really wanted they could just follow you home. However when stealing to order how easy is it for professional criminals to sit at home, log onto a car site and then pick out their next victim by looking at number plates.

Well to get ur address deatils surley they would have to have access to the DVLAs database, and to do that they could just search for a car of the right type, make colour etc and do it that way.

Personally i dont see the point in blanking out ur number plate.

Same thing could be said when you are at car shows, who has show plates? Hardley anyone i bet, how easy woudl it be for them to wander around trax deciding which cars to steal the following day

1, Think of all the agencies that have access to the DVLA database and then think out of all these people you really expect none of them to take backhanders?

2, Cloning. If a criminal wanted to clone a car whats the logical way of getting the number plate of an identical car?

stand on a bridge on the M1 and wait for the right car to come past, bet he wouldnt be standing there more that 10 minutes lol Or a backhander to a copper.

That was what I was trying to say.. just incase it was worth covering them. Only an idea :)

LOL at Dutch 172. I could afford the airfare OK - itd be the shipping back I couldnt afford! ;)

Whats the easiest way of blankiing out your plate? Although Ive never felt the need - as said, hundreds of people see my registration every day anyway.

I wouldnt of thought it would be worth going to the effort of tracking down a car just so you can steal the ICE or something.

Im sure most car theives are opportunists or people who keep an eye out locally. To be honest its as much risk putting your plate on here as driving it round anyway.

Unless you drive some £50k car thats likely to be stolen to order that is!!

I was driving home the other night and some guy took a picture of the back of my car as I drove past. I thought he may have been taking a picture of his van parked on the road, but he seemed to wait for me to go past. Knowing my luck Ill get a charge for ram raiding or something through the post. LOL

Unfortunately its a risk just having a car which stands out.

Escpecially if you have a private plate as well.

How is it easy to find someones address... unless you have a contact at the DVLA?
.... or if you have access to a police computer!!

What do you think organised criminals target most? Luxory sports cars? Not at all.... Most gangs target cars that are easy to move on or strip such as Saxos, 106s, Clios , Focuss etc..

It used to bother me, but you just cant hide it these days, you can try and try but then some random at a show or a track can take your pic and post it up anyway so why bother?

Im sure organised crime targets cars that they can strip parts off.

I cant imagine a £15k Clio being stolen to order though?!? I know someone who had their keys robbed by a group of guys stealing cars to order but this was a £50k BMW X5 which is a slightly different bracket to a 106, Focus, Clio etc.

You can if you know someone in the police..

I agree about using someone elses plates.. if you pissed someone off on here, they could get some plates made, then go and find a speed camera.. (if they had the same car..) then youd have to prove it wasnt you..

Eh? Ofcourse you can. People do it every day.

Blah whatever.....

Who cares... if someone hates me enough to f**k around wasting their money on making plates just to go through a red light of a speed camera.... then let em... but if theyre that pissed at me Id expect them to be round my house trying to beat me senseless......But ive got one over them already..... I lost my sense ages ago LOL

Something happend to me a few years ago..

I was woken up at very early hours by a very loud knock on the door, wondered what the hell was going on! Looked out the window first, and saw a police car parked outside!! sh*t!! What the feck had I done now rushed through my mind!! F+ck!! F+ck!! (I had only been in trouble once in my life with the Police, and that was just a few weeks before this! and here they are again!)

Opened the door, and they ask for me!!! ...its like 5am!! Not knowing what the hell was going on! I asked whats happened?! They wouldnt tell me, but wanted to know what car I had, and where it was? I told them it was in the garage! They asked me to take them straight to the car! I knew this was something really bad, as theres no way they would be here at this time getting me out of bed for no reason and Im still hardly dressed!

One of them went straight to the tax disk, and checked it...then got on his radio and started saying Yes, we have the car... it is now in our possession! WTF!! What the hell they want with my car?

I get marched back to the house, and they would not leave my side at all, and told me to get my shoes as I was being taken in for questioning!????

I was sh*tting myself, and honestly thought it was Jeremy Beadle or something! Then within a few minutes, they had a radio call and came back to me to say they had found the car they were looking for apparantly!! They then told me VERY briefly that...The same car, same colour, identicle, same plates was involved in an armed Robery that night and my car had been identified as the car they used!! BSTADS used my car identity! Then the Police went away!

After saying this, theres not much you can do to prevent them copying your plates if your just out driving around, but I still cover my plates on the web from now on anyway just out of principle.

Girl I work with had her number plates physically taken off her car - then when the parking tickets came through and she queried them, they had been used on a totally different make/colour of car...
