siezed track rod end!!!1

  Clio Gtt

ive been trying all day to get the track rod end off to replace it all day and it wont budge.

any one know haw to get this off!!!

how far have you got?

have you got the retaining nut free? after this is done there is the metal collect that sits on the end of the track rod end and is secured by the retaining nut?

to remove the nut, clean up with a wire brush, spray with PTE fluid, leave it and have a good go at it, if still no good then heat it all right up with a gas burner and becare full not to burn the CV boot, then place a hammer under heather and bang a hammer on top, (dificult to explain, basicaly, 2 hammers, one held against the bottom of the bar the other hitting the top, it really works,

to remove the collet, put a spanner the fits over the bar but not over the collet, then wack it with a hammer,

dont lose the collet or damage the nit because they come as part of thje steering rack and cant be bought seperatly!

ive got the nut free and the little sleeve bit, but its the actuall thredded bit thats stuck.

well hard to explain

not sure exactly where you are stuck from yer description.. but if its the rod end to the tie rod.. ie - you want to unscrew the rod end from the tie rod after removing the lock nut (or loosening it).. then..

what works for me is the following..

use a Stilson wrench on the tie rod.. not mole grips, the stilson increase gripping force as you turn... rest it on an axel stand or similar.. then use a mole grip on the track rod.. if it wont move, a large knocking stick can be helpful if the mole can stand it....

after that.. use an oxy torch (or if desperate - a plumbers blow torch) on the TRE (Keep the heat to this area.. not the tie rod !).. get it glowing then use the moles again with the stilson on the tie rod.. it will veritably run off the tie rod...
