Silicone on my bumpstrips!

I put silicone products on my trim to smartin it up a bit. However i have just been round a few coach works and they say they will not garantee the paint will not flack or the simply will not do my colour coding. My only option appears to be to get new trim all round my car (1.2 16v). Not Happy as new trim costs an extra £120. Can anyone confirm that painting over silicon even after it has been removed using thinners will still cause the paint to flack?

if its removed properly its ok, however it will be a b*****d to get off properly

Try getting some strips off a scrappy as they must have some and they would be a fraction of the price.
