Silly GPS question

  BMW M3
Would a tomtom, that doesnt map for a particular country still show the exact GPS co-ordinates or does it just not function. I know in theory it should show them all over the world but thought maybe tomtom would be ghey and not allow that feature if the correct maps are not bought.

It may just save my life this summer lol

it wont work, because it wouldnt have a database to reference to. i think

Really ?! I thought the signal is straight fromt the satelitte.

If i plung deep into the setting on my tomtom, is comes up witht the exact position.... like 00'00.000 N 00'00.00 E etc...... so this wont come up if i dont the map for that country ?

You'll get your GPS position AFAIK, but there'll be no map to reference it to.

The maps are in reference to the OS grid position (which is part of the maps), so you won't have that, but GPS co-ordinates are good enough.

Im not really after the maps, as long as the GPS position is there and i have my exact co-ordinates.... im going to try use it as a safety feature for a trip im doing in the summer, just in case things get desperate.

Justin. Yes you'll be fine. On the TomTom you will see a blank or white screen but if you go to GPS Co-ordinates you'll still see your exact position.

This is because the GPS (Global Position System) will still operate, displaying your longitudes and lattitides, usually in degrees.

If you use TomTom one..
Press the screen
Press "Preferences"
Go to Page 6
Press Configure GPS

yup it will work but not show a map.

click on the GPS signal bar and it take you to the screen with how many sats are in sight. It displays your long/lat/speed there.
