silly question?

Basically im looking to decat the car soon after my MOT this month but was wondering if people ever got any bother from the police for it popping or banging or even spitting the odd flame?

surely its a clear sign of a decat is it not?

could be a silly question but just thought id see what the answer may be!

No Clio with mild mods will pop and bang that much unless you get the overrun map, ive run a de-cat for years with no trouble but you are technically driving illegally.

i were going to get this done and opend a thred about it and i found it can put your car in limp mode, emissions light on etc. i decided not to bother.

how do you fix the limp mode? theres plenty of people with decats on here alone so surely it cant be that great of a risk?

never heard of a de-cat setting off limp mode, I had one on my previous 172 for 2 years without a problem at all, no lights even came on my dash!

I've got a yozza race + decat and it very rarely pops or bangs, maybe get the odd one when blipping on the down change. Don't think you'll have an issue mate

You will only get popping and banging with an over-run map, as for a de cat putting it in a limp mode ive never heard of them doing that

Police can only nick you if they suspect your car is running a decat, either by smelling the fumes (unlikely) or a policeman with some good car knowledge that knows it would only pop bang with a decat sees it pop bang and decides to pull you for it. To actually prove you've committed the offence they need to have an exhaust emissions tester with them which as far as i know only actual traffic police carry. My car's got a decat and only pops and bangs when the car is warming up, once it's warmed up you can't get it to do it no matter how hard you try, which is why people get the overrun remap, which i'm getting soon.

Thats what ive read on here.

However, ive got a mate with a 1.1 106 decatted that pops when he lets off the accelerator and a mate in a 1.2 punto decatted that pops on gear changes. neither have any sort of maps
