SKY Engineers / Callback

Right, setup a local network for a mate of mine and his flatmates, one router plugged direct into the main socket (no other sockets in building) via a splitter, the only thing that needed to be plugged into the filter was the SKY telephone cable, but the router wouldn’t sync up, so I left it out, all was fine…

The problem now is he has received a letter from sky saying he needs to connect it back up 24/7, even after explaining that it’s not possible due to it knocking off the ADSL connection “breaks the terms of contract and the higher rate will be charged for multi-room etc etc”

My understanding is SKY do a call-back on the line once a month, but I am sure if they do a call-back manually once a week, SKY don’t do there auto check? This is what I was told down the local by an old geezer anyhow, he even wrote the call back sequence down for me, which I have since lost.

So that’s my question, has anyone got the call back sequence for SKY?

I've heard of a few people say to Sky 'go funk yourself' at their demands. If they continue, you'll switch to cable TV instead (even if you have no intention of doing). Of the people I've heard doing it - Sky is normally the one that backs down. Seems its a ball-ache to cancel the service, refund any direct-debit, recall equipment, etc, etc.

Might be worth calling their bluff?

They have recently done this to me... the downstairs box is connected to the phone line, but the one in my room isnt. So, they tried to charge us 150quid extra a month because of this. So had my mum ranting at me to sort it. Plugged it in and the thing wont even recongise that the phone line is plugged in. So just unplugged it as it means i cant have a phone in my room, and told the mothership all was well and then she just argued with the sky people. All sorted now :) lol

When I got Sky installed the bloke they sent round wanted to drill a hole in my wall to plug the box into the phone via the most direct route. I said b****cks to that and for him to plug it in with a long bit of wire and I'd make it safe. As soon as he left I unplugged it and never bothered to put it back in. I never heard anything from sky and it was almost 2 years ago! IIRC, you only have to have it plugged in for one year.
