Sky HD Installed.

  UR R26R.5, VW Golf R
Had Sky HD all fitted t'other day. Pretty darn good. Picture on the very few HD channels is very crisp and bright. Noice. WWE and football in High Definition. Quality.

Also had the Sky+ box relocated to upstairs to replace the standard Sky box we had in the bedroom for multiroom. Tip top.

The engineer, when putting the new reception unit on the dish, joked that the old one looked like it had been in a nightclub brawl... ahem : http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=197661

Yes... yes it did.

All in all, very pleased

Can you PM what you paid if you dont mind, sugar.

Considering the same change..

I paid top dollar Revelinho. They claimed they couldnt lower the price of HD, because they are contracted to sell it at that price. It may be reduced in a few months due to Virgin, or it could go up. Very odd.

I dont mind saying I paid £250 all in, fitted and installed. Plus a new dish receptacle thing and Sky+ fitted upstairs (extra hole in wall for lead)

Gemma cant tell the difference between HD and normal TV, I was switching between the channels at least 20 times to make it clear. Women, know your f*cking role.

Don't forget to make sure "Anytime" is enabled. Loads of HD content available via that.

How do I do that, James? I noticed the adverts for it but my TV guide shows a red HD icon in the bottom corner, and not the red Anytime icon. Is it the same thing?

My brother had HD installed last year @ £350 iirc. Twinned up with a Bravia, the quality is fantastic. I too found myself flicking between HD and non HD just to see the massive difference. Clairty is fantastic.

I just had Sky+ installed today for £30 (Free box etc) - couldn't stretch to HD just yet due to the price of the box.

Your HD box has yet to receive the software update, it will happen automatically or failing that you can force it to update.

Your installer (I use the term loosely) obviously couldn't be bothered to perform the software update on the box.

Turn the power to the box off, hold down the backup button on the box (not remote) and while keeping it held down turn the power back on. Keep the button held down for about 20 seconds and you should see all the lights on the front of the box light up. It's now performing a software update.

If you turn the TV on you'll see a message telling you what's happening. After it's complete Anytime should be accessible by the red button.

My installer couldnt even be bothered to setup our Sky+ Record/Pause function either. I had to phone Sky 4 times to ask why it wasnt working.

3 Indian guys told me they'd send the settings to the dish which could take 4 hours. I phoned up the next day to complain I still hadnt got them working, and they put me through to an English woman in Tech Support, who simply said, "Your recording settings havent been activated yet. I'll do it now." 1 second later, it was done!! She apologised for whoever I had been speaking to and said they should have noticed this right away.

Why employ f*cking retards, TBH?

Unless you phone Sky at a time where they are experiencing national viewing problems then any over the air signal should arrive at the Sky box within seconds. 4 hours was the standard crap many people would tell customers, especially when their own shift ended in 3 hours time :D

Same here, bought the box of my mate for £150, installed myself and up n running in s**t hot HD glory within 20 mins of unboxing, amazing quality.

I phoned Sky because the engineer didn't get HD/Premium Channels working on the new box, and the bloke did it whilst I was on the phone - took 4/5 seconds from him enabling it.

The engineer used the excuse of 4 hours, but he obviously wanted to leg it quickly.

LOL at you slagging the installers off.

They dont have to do the download and they dont have to pair your card for you. I bet he was a sub contractor and you were one of his 10 installs that day. I always pair the card for the customer to get the plus features and premium channels working straight away (only because i have got some new software for my pda that does it and i no longer have to wait in the same que as you would calling and speak to some idiot at the other end) but never do a download as the box will do it automatically the first night :D

Sky HD and Bravia 50".The only way to watch tv.Got mine all set up last year, well worth the money.

The sticker which on the front of a new box, and from speaking to Sky directly after things not working suggest you are NOT supposed to let the engineer leave without everything working. So either they're blowing smoke up our ass and trying to pass blame, or you're not reading the same install documents :p

And by working, that means do a full update, pair card, etc.

The engineer who did my Sky HD box install did the update, but no premium features worked.. he pulled the 4hr trick with me, which turned out to be nonsense. I rang Sky after 5 hours, and it started working within 5 seconds of speaking to them.

The over the air update has nothing to do with pairing of the card to the box.

I used to say the 4 hour thing aswell after i have done a call back (covers the engineer so he gets paid and makes it easier for sky to pair the card when the customer calls them). But normally there is at the very least a ten min wait to speak to sky to get them to pair the card so we just leave it with the customer to sort.

dan who do you work for i work for avc in partnership with sky. the it can take up to 4 hours is true esp if you dont have a phone line connected and you have to mi. i have got tha new software for my pda too saves loads of time

I hate to say it as they have such a w**k rep but i get my sky work through firstline digital. But im not a franchisee like 90% of there engineers, im a complete subbie and i'm slowly getting away from them and more into just private work which is obviously alot better.

When im contracting through firstline though unfortunately you gotta bang them in and get onto the next one. Myself, dad and two brothers have two vans between us and there are some shite engineers about i tell thee!
