just been offered a free sky plus box from a mate who's upgraded to hd . how easy is it upgrade from sky to sky plus yourself.

Well worth it mate. You'll need a 2nd cable from dish to box and poss a new UMB thingy for 2 wires

Need a quad LNB, two sat cables from the dish.

Not sure on the recording subscribtion now as its free but unsure if you need to inform SKy or not.

I assume you have sky viewing card?

Yeah I think you need to ring Sky to get them to activate Sky+ on your subscription but there should be no extra charge if you subscribe to channels already.
