I know this is generally a trait of these cars but i was just wondering if there any quick fixes or bushing jobs etc that can ighten up the very sloppy gear change in these cars? p.s. Clio 172 Ph2
Well....i wasnt going to poly the dogbone for fear of more in car vibrations (as if i dont have enough )
But i will if it will help.
I renewed the gearbox top mount last week.
Even at standstill its sloppy like.
As for the oil, well....i'd suspect that it hasnt been done. Car has 49k with a fsh, last renault service was 39k (i did the last about 500 miles ago but no box oil)
Was musing with the idea of doing it with gooed stuff like Fuchs TITAN SINTOFLUID SAE 75W-80
Would that really help? i was suspecting a gear linkage bush or something until i actually felt the linkage under the car and noted it was very free moving, almost TOO free moving.
Have you tried moving the engine around? If the engine is too far forward or back (can't remember) in the engine bay it can cause gearstick issues.
IIRC, it involves supporting the engine on a jack then loosening the mounts. You should be able to push the engine a bit further back or pull it forward slightly before re-tightening the mounts.
