smelly CC

whenever i put the aircon/CC on, theres a strange odour of smelly feet - etc etc.. have just had a service, filter hopefully should have been changed... any ideas?????

Take it back to renault and ask them to clean out the aircon system, something builds up in it if you dont use it for a while (cant remember what) but they just spray some stuff into the system or something.

i had this, but mine was smelling of rotten eggs , i took it to Renault Woking and they pulled the ORIGINAL filter out and replaced it, then asked if the car had been serviced, to which i responded, "Yes, twice at Renault Liverpool" fekkers!!

you might find there is moisture in the heaterbox if the aircon isnt used regularly this tends to be more likely. Basically moisture builds up and turns stagnant the smell is the bacteria. If the filter being replaced doesnt solve the problem then get some antibacterial spray from renault or an aircon specialist normally comes in a can with a long straw/nozzle which you poke in to the face vents.

Your Renault dealer should have some antibacterial mousse which kills the bugs and makes you car smell like a turkish bordello.

Ive found I seem to get a funny smell if I dont use the aircon for even a day, so I just run it all the time, and its OK.

its this kind of thing that annoys me, you probably paid twice for a replacement part that should be changed. And cos they cant be @sred taking black plastic off from under windscreen they fob it off.

What other parts do they do this to!

wifes audi a4 does the same - air con stinks like the kids wet games kit after its been at school all week - been back to audi for a filter change and sanitise.

cheers guys for the advice, however if it is just a matter of not using the CC very often are reno going to charge me for doing the work, it doesnt seem like a warrenty claim..

some designs of heaterbox are prone to smelling bad the e39 5 series was a big offender at one point when i worked for bmw we had several cars that had the heaterbox replaced under warranty as a result. i would say you have a fair chance of getting it sorted FOC after all most people are clueless about cars and probably only use the A/C to make the car cold.
