Snapped wheel stub

  clio
Hi,

I'm not having a good day...

1) Failed interview
2) Letter from HMRC
3) Snapped wheel stud

I had just replaced the front discs and pads on the N/S and took the wheel off the front O/S, nuts extremely tight (new tyres recently) so I had to get the good old breaker bar out to loosen, very bad thing happened the stud has snapped. I can't get to any of the thread it has snapped off inside the hub.

I've never had this happen before..ever.

What are my options?
Drill into the remaining thread? Is the best thing to use a small drill bit or as big as possible? Is there a way I can cut a groove into the thread and screw out? Or do I take it to a garage and ask them to do it for me? Or new hub?

And where is the best place to get new new studs?

Any advice greatly appreciated....

Thanks

Rich

if you couldnt get it out with a breaker bar, i doubt youll be able to "screw" it out!!

depending on what model you use, you might as well just get a new hub from a scrap yard!!

but for the record, if torqued up correctly you can drive on 3 wheel bolts, though its not recomended!

You would be surprised, it's possible, it depends. The bolt would have been under tension from the wheel face through to the thread engaged in the hub. With the bolt head snapped off, the thread remaining in the hub is no longer under tension. It will depend on if it was tight because of so much tension due to being done up so tight, or whether the thread is b#ggered in the hub.
