Snow Foam Lance...info please

i have heard a little about these but don't know much about them and would like to know more before my birthday in january...

previously i have just washed / dryed waxed, polished etc etc with no problem, rinsing etc with a hose, using 2 bucket method, then using good quality products...

How does the snow foam lance differ from my above procedure?
do you use it every time you wash the car?
etc etc....any help / knowledge is appreciated.

the reason i ask is i now live in a very remote place, the cars get very dirty very easily and am looking into making it easier.

so does it just agitate the dirt then?

how does it actually work? i assume you don't attach it to your ordinary hose?

Power washer, got a Karcher?

As far as I'm aware it lifts dirty from the surface and reduces dirt contact when using a mitt to wipe over.

Yep, I tend to leave mine on for ten mins, to let it dwell it breaks down the grease/dirt on the paintwork.

You need a PW and one of these..

They are to loosen the dirt in theory before rinse then wash so you reduce the likelihood of minor scratches etc. You have to get the right conditions to use them imo, and your neighbours will think you're potty ;)

honestly don't bother mate. no point. just rinse the car normally.

No right conditions needed :S

If your car is muddy and well prepped below (waxed/sealed etc) then the foam will blow over it .. bubble up and dissolve the grime. You then hose off the foam, and if needed, a quick bucket of suds later will have it looking like new.

Search YouTube for some vids. It's awesome stuff. Makes washing so much easier and fun !

You will need to invest in a Karacher (or other power-washer thingy) but it's well worth it for other things not just car cleaning anyway.

Tbh, i had one, and imo they are a bit of a gimick...... Used mine with a few good foams, and got the same results (not very good). Imo your better of with a prewash, then 2 bucket method etc.

I'll go with that. My before and after inspections show not a lot of grime was lifted by foaming. Think I will moving my lance on.

If it's windy the foam doesn't stay on long enough to make it effective ;)

This is the common mis-understanding that most people have.

Snow foaming is a pre-wash. It does not replace the washing stage. It merely prevents your paint work from having oodles of mud and grit washed across it by your wash mitt.

A full wash down is still required. If you don't, you are actually doing more damage if you just dry it after a snow foam.

It all determines what you are using through the said snowfoam lance! Some snowfoams arent good for lifting dirt, others lift dirt and drip off the car and still being safe to your wax. Bilt hamber are supposed to have a very good snowfoam for cleaning power!

People who say it doesnt work, i can get you a load of pictures now showing dirt dripping off cars from using the lance.

It is only a pre wash though! The only time id just use it as a wash is in the summer, 1 day after a proper wash when there is just a wee bit of dust on the car.

Post away!

Messy gimmick imo!! The prewash i've linked does a much better job!

Not saying it doesn't work. just that it's a waste of time and money. Get the car wet, then HP hose it to get any major bits off. lambs wool wash with 2 bucket method and it'll be fine.

Controversial I know, but I think that SF is just something that has been blow out of proportion. The main detailers use it, but why I have no idea. If they are going to do a full polish afterwards anyway, whats the point. It's just another thing that a detailer "must" have. Not for me, just a bit of a gimic really.
