you not having much luck with that car..maybe your relays..(brown ones) if it just clicks, might be damp..it sounds electric..put the lights on and try to start it,if they go dull, and its goes click click click, its the battery or relays maybe..will it bump?Driving along and car dies, try to restart it and trys but won't start after 2 tries just get a click
Check aux belt its still attached no warning lights
Timing belt ?????
Cheapest 1st,battery leads clean & tight, make sure the positive lead at the alternator has not corroded through, jump start, check charge rate.Driving along and car dies, try to restart it and trys but won't start after 2 tries just get a click

Try the starter motor, the solenoid can stick. Give it a tap with a hammer
how will a starter motor stop the car in motion? you can take it off the car, it will still run, how many people carry a hammer in the car? yes officer, the hammer is to hit the starter motor,if my car stops in motion.. ha ha..Try the starter motor, the solenoid can stick. Give it a tap with a hammer
Alternator and battery are only a couple of months old, can't really bump it too much snow and I'm myself
Anyway to tell if it's timing belt ?
Put it in 3rd gear with the handbrake off and push the car.If there is no compression, game over, but I think you are being pessimistic.Alternator and battery are only a couple of months old, can't really bump it too much snow and I'm myself 😧

if that doesn't answer your question, hit it with a hammer.. haPop the oil cap off , put it in 3rd gear , and rock the motor back and forth and you should see the cams turn . It the cam don't move - you have engine trouble .
get rid of it get a proper car, like a 182... them 172s seem to be load of rubbish..(joke) 172 owners don't have kittens..if that doesn't answer your question, hit it with a hammer.. ha
this site is a jink,
he is walking home now,for a hammer, cause of you.. in all that snow..Your'e right, didnt read the op properly doh

this site is a jink.. no one ever comes on and says, my cars running find.. its just all faults, then it make you paranoid , you think, god hope I don't get that fault, then you do .. haWhat`s a jink?
that isn't good, you was right to worry, told you before need to contact these cowboys.. say the aux belt you fitted wrong went too, you said they charged £800...they need to foot the bill..when was all this work done? if you have the money and for peace of mind, get the belts all replaced, send the cowboys the bill..(if it is a slipped belt)Well rac guy done the rocking thing cam is turning batt alternator are fine he turned the key it made a clunk
He said he didn't want to try again incase the timing has slipped, dropped it off at garage I'll hopefully find out tomorrow but I suspect whoever done timing didn't replace a pulley or cocked it up.
It was elite auto in warick that done the belt but there 300 mile away so no chance I'll have comback on them,
Fingers crossed its a sensor my knock sensor flashed a fault the other day but I have feeling ill be needing some valves

where is the knocking senor on the dash? I am getting all my belts done soon..and everything with it.. I am gonna be paranoid now,ha I know a knocking senor ,senses knock, would that stop the engine from starting? is it built in the system, to cut the engine?I'll be in contact with them after i hear back whats wrong.
Anyone selling an engine lol
What would it sound like ? There was no huge bang I might have heard a misfire when I tried to restart itSurely if the valves or belt went you'd have heard something to that effect?

have you been messing with the car again? it was fine before you got your hands on it ha ha
http://freeasestudyguides.com/knock-sensor-symptoms.html says a car has a fail safe mode,so yours might of kicked in..
Me thinks he wanted to get back into his nice warm cab ASAP.Well rac guy done the rocking thing cam is turning batt alternator are fine he turned the key it made a clunk

how long have you had this car?Emis
Emission light comes on when there is a knock sensor fault
I watched the cams move when he rocked the car so there defo moving, I took dip stick out there was no shards of metal or anything on it, you know that buzzing around you can hear from engine which ignition is on but engine off that sounded different more whiney if that means anything.Me thinks he wanted to get back into his nice warm cab ASAP.
Car sounded fine until it died it happed as i changed gear since 4th of DecemberI say it wouldn't sound to healty

What would have to be done to fix this new value and piston ?sounds like it dropped a valve to me...
the question should be, what has caused it..? better to wait and see what the problem is,then go from there..wouldn't a dropped valve make a bang? What would have to be done to fix this new value and piston ?
Has the trip computer been mysteriously resetting itself recently? This is a serious question with a purpose. What would have to be done to fix this new value and piston ?
No car has been fine everything working and pulling really well had a knock sensor fault flash up but turned off after a DayHas the trip computer been mysteriously resetting itself recently? This is a serious question with a purpose.
Car was running fine before it died, thanks M8 I hope so tooI do recall a clio specialist on here commenting that the valves can be a weak point on these engines when someone's dropped a valve not so long ago.
It wouldn't necessarily make a big bang.....Whilst the passenger in a clio 172 (which dropped a valve), the only indication, was it sounded unwell/noisy shortly before. On heading to the garage, it just died.. no big bang.. it died! It had dropped a valve. New valves etc.. and it was all good again. I think it was caused by idiot local garage not fitting cambelt/cambelt kit correctly, not using the correct Renault tool, timing out, combined with weak valves... maybe...
But your issues could be completely different... I am hoping its something much more simple and easy to rectify, Good Luck with getting it sorted
It's already at garage so hopefully hear some tomorrow, even if its not belt related I'm having belt dephaser pump done so I don't need to worry about it I have a recipet from previous owner belt was done in Aug but aux belt wasn't done, timing belt looks brand new and alternator and battery on recipet are both shiney new aswell oil and filter were clearly new too, the fuel rail guard was lose and some air con and bumper bolts missing so I reckon it was done by a monkey.I'd just hold out until tomorrow when the garage do a compression test. I wouldn't jump straight in to worrying that it's the cambelt.
In the same breath, if you got the belt changed by a non specialist and it's playing on your mind then pay the money and get it done by a specialist upon its return.
2 tries then it started clicking, only clicks nowAfter 2 tries just gets a click?
So, after those two tries it now clicks any time you try to start it? Or it always follows the pattern of 2 tries then click?
I'd just hold out until tomorrow when the garage do a compression test.
