Some Components and Amp Advice?

  Clio 1.2
Hi guys this is my first thread here, just want to say hello to everyone! while at the same time ask for some advice lol.

I have done some research on here about sound setups etc. seems that the best thing to do first to improve sound is buying a good HU and components. I already have a HU in mind, however im a bit stuck between which components to put up front and what's a good amp to buy to power it.

The amp needs to be able to power the fronts as well as a sub later on when i have some more money in the bank lol.

mostly i listen to Funky, Electro House etc. if this helps.. but that doesnt necesarily mean the components have to have great bass because the sub can take care of that later..

I have around 150 for both the components and the amp but more if theres a major plus for better sound..

thanks in advance folks.

Think you'll be hard pushed to get a good amp and component combo for £150. I'd say start off with some high quality front components and wiring for the front, and sound deaden the doors well. Should make a vast improvement. There are a vast range of components out there for £150, but always heard good things about Focal, Diamond, Hertz, Rainbow and JL Audio. Best off joining an Audio forum for the best advice.

I should imagine every little helps. Clio doors are flimsy little things so it can only make it sound better.

You can get 2 channel amps off ebay for little money.
I got a phoenix Gold 60w RMS x 2 for £30.
To go with it I got these:

Mine are only 5.25" which is the standard speaker size, but if you can modify the speaker holder to fit 6.5" and mount them well it will improve mid bass a lot.

sweet. ill be watching ebay for a bargain. if i modify the speaker holder to fit a 6.5 will i still be able to fit the factory cover on top to keep it looking oem?

/\ if you do it right then you should yep!

I can reccomend the rainbow SLX265's. They are good little speakers and very smooth, also take plenty of abuse  6.5" is the way to go!

Oh and spend plenty on sound insulation and fibreglass the mahoo-sive holes in the doors too!

ive decided on some infinity kappa components and a infinity kappa sub to match lol.

the components have these specs:

Peak power: 165 W
RMS power:55W
Frequency Response (±3dB): 55Hz - 25kHz

the sub has these specs:

Nominal Power Handling 275 Watt RMS
Peak Power Handling1100 Watt
Frequency Response
20 Hz - 250 Hz

how do you add up the watts to figure out how powerfull the amp need to be to power these two up? if its the peak of both the sub being 1100watt and the components being 165watt, the amp needs to be ateleast a 1300watts?

How about an Infinity Reference 475A? That'll power it all fine and will match the rest of your stuff?

Personally I'm not keen on inifinity, on a low budget the JBL GTO1004 would have plenty left in it when powering that kit (which is a good thing).

There's a guide in the guides section about fitting 6.5" speakers. I'd recommend Hertz DSK 165's, always been impressed with them!

I wouldnt worry about a sub too much yet. Dont be tempted to buy components, amp and sub for the price of a decent set of components! Some of the best sounding systems i've heard have just consisted of nice components all round and a suitable amp. But its your system!
