Someone to wire up some speakers?

  Listerine & Poledo
Afternoon all

Can anyone recommend people in the Ruislip / Ealing area to rig in some parcel-shelf speakers for me?

Powered from the HU, so either using existing wiring or a new set?

Thanks

Powering 6x9s from the head unit will do you no favours...

But just extend the rear speaker wires... easy 10 mins job.

thanks, that sounds like the way forward, are the sides gummed together like the front doors are? (simply, for someone who has no ability in this kind of thing, how much swearing is involved?)

i did this to mine. the rear panels pop out of place..literally. and then you have 4 torx (i think thats what the star ones are called) screws holding the speaker in. these unscrew and then you literally attatch the speaker wire to the rear of these and then run it into the boot. pop all the panel back on and hey presto.

Terrible Terrible plan..... I cannot stress enough how crap HU powered 6x9's will sound. Uprated speakers are often worse than OEM speakers without an amp.

DO NOT DO THIS.

Either, buy a cheap amp (if budget is an issue) JBL amps can be had on ebay for less than £30, they're the best budget car audio manufacturer IMO. OR, buy a pair of component speakers.

Like this for example.... It's tatty, but it's cheeeeaaaaapppppp. A bit more wiring to be done but there we go.

Trust me, if you put them through head unit power, they'll sound crap and you'll end up buying an amp anyway.

I honestly can't say I agree, I've heard many HU powered speaker set up's sound fine to the "general ear".

If you want to just go for the powered off the HU option mate, I'd be willing to lend you a hand, wouldn't take long at all.

Cheers Jack, I'll bear it in mind.

only problem with an amp is that I've nowhere I can put it now. You cant undersling it to the shelf and I've already got enough boot space filled by sub.

I'm only interested since there's a lad on here offloading a shelf with Vibes already fitted, so I thought "why not?"

I can see this being ok if you have a great HU. If it's something average, they'll sound awful. But by all means, except a bit of time wiring, you don't have a whole lot to lose.

Most 6x9's will require about 100 - 125W RMS, most Headunits will output about 40 - 50W RMS (which I've always found to be a bit optimistic) per channel, clearly a huge difference.

You'll get hideous amounts of clipping at higher volumes, particularly with lower frequencies.

Just extended my rear speaker wire into the boot with the provided Vibe wire... Sounds fine to me ! As chavvy as the fusion fronts and vibe 6x9 speaker set up i have, un amped, they cant be seen and sound good to me!

Cheers fella, shame you're the opposite side of the city! :)

Fair enough mate, as said, give it a go. If nothing else, you'll learn a bit.

You can always mount the amp on the back of your seats, under one of the front seats, or put a false floor in the boot, ventilation isn't a problem with lower powered amps.

Back of the seats was an idea I had, would go well on the 1/3 section, but there doesn't seem to be anything solid there?

I just need a dry weekend and some tools to see how this damn car comes apart, hell, it cant be that bad if a series of bumps can reduce most renaults to their individual parts

I haven't had a look at the back of my seats to be honest, but I did exactly this on the back of my 306 rear bench....

I bought it for £200 and just used it as an audio test bed when I had my car audio business so I've tried virtually every combination of car audio you could imagine.

Realistically mate, i say you HAVE to have an amp, but then I'm used to very high end audio equipment, so I'm quite anal. Others don't seem to notice so maybe you won't.

I just want someting better than the cones used in the back of the 172.

Later on I might amp up the shelf and get the rears back in commision though, not sure.

Thanks all

Most put out around 20w rms youll find, 45w max
just upgrade the rear door/panel speakers instead.much better

They all state max not rms values

I know, but mine clearly read 45 watts RMS per channel in the hand book, which it wasn't. I would post a picture, but it went a long time ago.

Anyway, exact values aren't important, the fact is, the headunit is vastly underpowered to run 6x9's.

whoa whoa WHOA there CS!

All I wanted was someone who could help rig in a shelf with some speakers in it!

:)

If I go down the route of wanting more power, then the fronts will be getting any amplification anyway

Lol.... well back to the original point, there's plenty of people who can do it, it's a real easy job. But car audio places tend to rape you for things like this cos it's not really worth their while doing a job that makes them a tenner.... there must be loads of people around you area that can give you a hand... it's not a big job at all.
