sorry about this guys but......

  Sinclair C5

Im new here having recently purchased myself a 02 plate 172 and im afraid to say..........you guessed it...........the 4k rattle ive read so much about!

Im just after alittle guidance

Ive read all the previous threads regarding this but im still unsure. The problem seems to be when the revs hit 4k but only on the way down, Ive read people mentioning that it is a problem to do with the centre section of the exhaust system but Id put money on it coming from the glovebox.

I have owned renaults in the past and understand that having the odd rattle hear and there adds to the cars character and is all part of the joys of owning one but this 4k rattle is beyond a joke.

The only solution I can think of is do i keep the revs under 4k all the time or never drop below 4k ;)

Any help would be greatly appriciated guys, I realise you are probably mailto:pi@@ed">pi@@ed off with people asking this same question but please take pity on me. :(

Mine was not related to the exhaust but to a couple of wires vibrating behind the dashboard. :) THey were taped up and bingo - problem sorted.

similar thing, mine wasnt related to the exhaust, but according to them when i collected the car, the rattle was a heat shield rubbing on the steering column. its all been fixed anyway and has never come back!! :D

The standard exhaust wont last long anyway. Always seems to go between the centre section and the backbox. Best bet is to replace it with something that has a lifetime warranty. Then you should have no problems at all.

i thought mine was the glovebox but it was actually my side bump strip ( the bit with the 2.0 badges in ) i just pushed it back on securely and hey presto...no rattle !!!!
