Sound quality of aftermarket Blaupunkt headunits?

Hope someone can answer this. What's the sound quality like of aftermarket Blaupunkts in the £200+ range?

Reason i ask is i think i've found the perfect headunit but want to make sure it doesn't sound like crap! Obviously it will be no Becker or Nakamichi but how do they fare against Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood etc?

The unit i'm looking at is the Memphis MP66. It's got a USB port that can use portable hard drives up to 80gb. I could fit my whole collection on that easily and it's loads cheaper than an ipod!

Get into a local Halfords and have a feel, i did last year and the quality of the plastic etc is crap to say the least I bought a Pioneer instead

blaupunkt components and subs are amazing - thats why ive got em in my car but IMO the HU's are gash - go for something like a pioneer as Yin suggested or Alpine etc

The new pioneer range is a load of crap and each of the three Alpine i was looking at are missing a major feature somewhere along the line.

The 9850Ri has no biolite display and only 1 preout

The 9857R has no full speed ipod control

The 9861Ri has no Biolite display.

A big screen is a must for me with all the info held in ID3 tags so a 1 line display just wont cut it.

The 9857R is my favourite of the lot but then i'd be paying an extra £60 or so for the original ipod interface which is supposed to be pretty rubbish, plus an Ipod on top.

I tested out a Blaupunkt earlier and the SQ held it's on with the Pio and Alpine units. Shame it wasn't the actual unit i wanted to test though.

the higher end bp are great however the lower end is gash! I hear you spirez on hte new alpine range not impressed at all!

If however you look on CAD a certain JVC EXAD is gong for £289 - complete bargain!!

Is a bargain but i wouldnt use the screen and apparently it has no blackout feature and is still quite bright even at max dimmer setting.

Also think it's a lot uglier than the AVX2. The AVx2 is cool but i dont want to spend that much at the moment.
