Sounds Like A Diesel

Its a petrol before some one asks !!

Ne way noticed it a couple of days ago but ever really thought abotu it much, its only while ideling and i think its when its cold mainly ill have to keep an eye out next time ive been driving.....Anyway its like a knocking noise but sounds a hell of a lot like a deisel engine ticking over only lasts for about 5 seconds then its gone and all is silent in the engine bay.


Anyone know what this could be something internal related or just something within the engine bay ??

alot of vvt engines sound like that on first start up till the oil pressure builds up
1.8 20v turbos sound like it too

The second one but completly goes away after like 10 seconds

Sounds like dephaser pulle mate, very often they rattle on start up for a few seconds then go! The pulley is about £120 from memory? and its cambelt off to do!

Where abouts do you live mate?

Dundee mate....just went out and started the car after reading the other thread and the car wasnt making the noise... Ill have to keep my eye out for when it happens again.....

Also i removed the oil filler cap on the engine when starting the car up and the noise was no where to be found...

Well started up the car last night at mates house and there was no noise got home though once the engine ad heated up and it was there but went away after a few seconds again.....de the de phaser pully ??

Just snuk it into Stealers for some warrenty work, put it in for the dephasor and also the microblisters on the boot lid....will be waiting for a phone call next week when its in see what they say
