South Wales Photography meet?

Seems there's quite a few folk around this area, and maybe others you would travel a bit to get there (myself included).

How about we get together sometime for a meet? So instead of a car meet where everyone just parks up with their bonnet open, we could do the same and be geeky over each other's cameras lol!

Back to serious....

This thread is just gauging interest at the moment, of course we would have to pick somewhere, like a beach I guess to catch a nice sunset or something like that, and then a time when everyone can do it.

So if you up for something like this, put your name down

Sounds like a great suggestion and I would be right keen. The only thing you need to be careful of is the suns position on the horizon. No good if its north west which it is at the moment and being on a South facing beach.

Excellent point Scott, I've been keeping an eye on that, at the moment the sun sets in a position which can give you shots like this:

So you can have the rock formations in the foreground, with the sun behind. It will vary a bit with each location, so we'll have a to pick a suitable one with this in mind.

How far ahead in the future did you have in mind for this Dan?

Anytime really, as soon as the next couple of weeks if people are up for it, up to winter time where the sun is in a different position.

The advantage at the moment (summer) is you can turn up about 7pm ish, spend a while shooting and scout around for the best places to go during the sunset, then shoot that. And you don't have to freeze your nuts off all evening lol!

I'm by no means taking charge of this, of going to tell people what to do. I just thought a few of us could get together as there seems to be a fair few people who shoot in this area.

I would definitely be interested in this. Very much an amatuer at the moment with very basic equipment, but always looking for inspiration and tips from you more experienced guys. Sure a bit of encouragement will put me in the right direction to get my wallet out and update my kit . Will keep an eye on the thread for update of dates/times.

I suspect only top end digital full frame slrs's with an abundance of £1000+ lenses will be tolerated

You can bring what you like mate, alas clockwork cameras never really caught on..

Cool, so at least there's a good group of us at the moment.

I take it weekends would be the best? Or at the moment, as the sun sets late, we could meet one evening during the week.

...oh and we need to pick a nice location too! I know Dunraven Bay is a cracking place, pretty big, so lots of different stuff to shoot there.

I think Dunraven bay would be the best option around the South Wales area, plenty of room for us without getting in each others way. Cliffs and rocky areas on both ends of the beach with lots of interest for photos.

When we pick a date, this would be subject to the weather a bit. For example if we pick a Saturday evening, and the forecast on Friday is for heavy rain all day - then it might be worth calling it off.

Very true, ideally we could mess about at low ish tide, then the sunset is near high tide. Or the opposite depending what people prefer.

Anyone thought of dates yet? Been buying a few bits for the camera, hoping to get some good advice and to practise. Just hope what ever date we decide, that the weather holds out for us, especially with everyone travelling down.
