Spare PC, not sure what to do with it!

  DCi
I have a PC at home which I don't use anymore and I wondered what I could perhaps do with it to make use of it!

I was thinking about converting it to a media PC as I didn't even really know what they did, but seeing as my PS3, Laptop and TV all live in the same room, it seems a bit of a waste of time.

So I was thinking perhaps of installing some form of Linux on it, maybe even a server edition and maybe installing a webserver on it for playing about with.

does anyone have any suggestions of what I could do with my PC/any advice on picking up Linux/and it's server edition for the first time?

Waste not/want that and all that!

if youve never played with linux before, i suggest ubuntu live cd as its the most friendly for windows users and quite a good starting point.

yeah i would say have a play with ubuntu/kubuntu on it

you could also install FreeNAS on it and turn it into a network attached storage?

I would say network it as a fileserver so you can access your files on anything connected to the network

I don't have that much stuff!! This was the kinda thing putting me off a media centre, I am by no means going to fill my laptop and I can just stream to my PS3 so no worries there, I dont exactly need storage everywhere as the laptop is mobile too!

My plans here is for this PC to be a learning experience, setting it up for NAS isn't really anything that willl stretch me, so I suppose I really am looking for uncharted territory (I.e. Linux)

Thanks for the suggestions though.. Sorry I suppose I was being a bit vauge in the first post!
