Spare Wheel

  Fabia vRS

Just bought a set of four 17" alloy wheels...and am wondering wat everyone does for a spare wheel who has bigger wheels

Have you bought an extra 17" wheel to go in the boot, or do u carry that moose stuff around with ya?, or do u just drive around with no spare what so ever.

Jim.

hang on.. correct me if im wrong.. but i thought, if you got a 17" alloy, the tyre is a much lower profile.. BUT its still the same size overall as the 15" alloy.. but the 15" will have more tyre.. i thought they were always the same size overall.. just the bigger the alloy the lower the profile?

(do i make sense? hehe)

most space-saver wheels are a smaller size anyway - ok for emergencies just dont do any distance or speed on them.

think that if you put bigger alloys on, the tyre is going to be low profile, but the alloy and tyre combined is larger than your standard wheel and tyre. Think thats why some cars need the arches modded.

I have 15s on mine after orignally having 13s on.

You can work it out 195/15 menas the tyre wall is 15% of 195.

The diameter of my wheels is larger by about 10mm...but a shed load wider.

I think the rule is you can go up 2 inches without the overall diameter of the wheel changing much.

Mate to think wot it would be liek to be driving on 1 155 and 3 195s tho

I have got 17s on and still use my 15" spare. With the difference in tyres it is the same size and Ive driven with it on no probs. All depends on your tyres though I believe. Dont the AA charge if you dont have a spare or am I making it up ? I thought you had to have one ?

yeah had the standard dynamique wheels on....havent really thought about selling.. not sure how much id want 4 em either (not sure how much theyre worth tbh)

I think Ill go with the space saver option n keep my original wheel in the booit.

Either....

a) keep an old wheel as a spare

or

b) use the mousse and shed the extra weight

the tyre weld stuff is good! i had the biggest lump of metal in my tyre it literally went flat in about 60 seconds flat.

i used that stuff, and it was coming out of the hole like u wouldnt believe, but after 5 mins it had stopped, so i filled up with air and it got me 30miles home solid as a rock!

i wouldnt be without it!

I had to use the foam stuff and used two full cans - it kept squirting out the hole like nobodys business, and I had the car jacked up to take the pressure off. I had to phone Renault assistance who very helpfully and ignorantly said that they werent allowed to send a truck out because it was my fault I hadnt got a spare!!!!!!!!

"Its a Cup luv Renault dont provide one".........."well we can only send out a mobile tyre fitter £50 initial fee + the cost of the tyre"!!!!

I eventually got them round to my way of thinking.

Foam = good for some repairs not others. Spare wheel is the best option but increases weight.
