Speaker Wiring

I am installing alpine 13cm speakers into my 03 Clio, any ideas how to tell between positive and negative on the wiring?

If there is one with a coloured stripe/line that will be + (most likley) but if your musik sound "wrong" and muddy change the two lead´s..........You can hear if it´s not right.

get a multimeter, and test them, if the voltage shows up as -ive then you have the positive node of the multimeter attached to the -ive speaker cable and - node to + wire, if positive visa versa

there isnt a black strip, IIRC they are white and pink and white and orange in mine (but never needed to find out which was which as i ran new cabling)

yea the other sides green and purple ill check for ya in the morning cuz its writen on my standard speaker its a simple + on the one side

iirc, when I changed mine when you disconnect the plug from the back of the speaker its written inside the connector. ie a little + sign. Have a look....

attach a speaker, before you refit it fully, adjust the balance on your head unit from centre to left/right, if its the opposite of what it should be, its the wrong way around !

^ that wount work, as the balance moves from left to right channel, not anything to do with the phase of the speakers. Your thinking of RCA cables i think:)

I check all my speaker wiring by using an AA or AAA battery and connecting it briefly BRIEFLY across the wires at the amplifier end BEFORE connecting them to the amp. Basically, place one lead (doesnt matter which one) against the negative terminal of the battery (AA or AAA), then with the assistance of a second person unless you can see the cone, briefly touch the positive battery (AA or AAA) terminal with the other wire. If the cone moves out then that lead is the positive. If it moves in then that wire is the negative. Attach them to the amp now that you know which one is which. You could also use an LED if you dont like the idea of using a speaker! Repeat for all others but I NEVER do this to the tweeter. They are normally marked clearly anyway. Doing it this way it never matters if I somehow manage to cross the cables over under the carpet or even at the speakers. And Ive never fried a speaker either! Yet!!
