Speakers

  Clio Extreme 1.2 16v
Whats the difference between a 2way, 3way and a 4way speaker? lol just am looking for a set of 6x9s but i dunno which to buy cause i dunno if it makes a differnce if i buy a 2way speaker or a 4 way speaker?! :dapprove:

um it doesn't really matter as all 6x9's are real s**t tbh

but the number of way is to to do with the number of speakers within the single unit( eg a 3-way will have the woofer the mid/tweeter and a super tweeter)

Standard speakers are known as Coaxils, example below

These are 2way Components

These are 3way Components

Obviously the 3way's are the more complex speakers
I haven't heard of a 4way setup before :S

Anyhow...
A really good set of 2way components in the front and a sub in the boot is what you want.
A 4channel amp will run your front components and your sub - sorted :approve:

Dont bother with 6x9's its just an attactant for greasy thieves. Good components and a bassy sub.... sorted :)

:quiet: You've probably seen me comment on this before...

Concentrate on better front-end for better sound quality :approve:
6x9s are only funky for those who aren't old enough to have a license

Best example- If you go to a concert wouldn't you prefer to be closer to the stage?

The rear (std speakers or uprated Co-axil's) will run perfectly off the HU

Rear speakers (beside your seats) only provide rear fill.
If they are just as powerful as the components in the front you AND your rear passengers will get a lot of interference & "noise" from having a mixed sound stage

Component speakers in the rear will require more work than just IN & OUT;
  • Modifying the doorcard for the tweeters
  • "Aiming" the tweeters correctly to give the best sound stage
  • More than 1 set of components adds to a more complex sound system, requiring more work & labour if you are paying for fitting
Just my opinion from what I have learned (so-far) from my local ICE installer over the years

My setup...(in progress)

Alpine HU & Digital Processor
Focal Components in doors
Tweeters mounted in A-pillars
Focal 4 Channel amp bridged to run comps

Focal Co-axil's in rear doorcards (running off the HU)

Focal 13" sub powered by a Focal mono amp

At the end of the day it's all up to yourself & your budget
Good luck

um don't mean to piss on your chips Tigger but co-axials and components with just one tweeter are both "2-way" speakers

just co-axials are on the same axis
