speeding up laptop

my laptops getting a bit slow, i defragmented it, done a disc clean up cant really think of anything else to do.

just got rid of AVG and downloaded avast as ive read its better now....

are there any programs that can check your computer for erors and fix them for free?
all the ones i come accross say they're free but when you think your just about to get everything sorted it asks for money

im not really sure what to ask for, i need a bit of friendly advice CS

Depends on how old it is. Any computer no matter how well you look after it eventually just could do with wiping clean and reloading windows. All your personal files of course can be kept, but it just basically sends your comp back to how it was the day you got it plus your personal files, none of the crap that builds up over the years etc.

it will be almost 3 years old. might look into wiping it then maybe

its just all the s**t that gets left behind installing and uninstalling stuff, any problems you have had that may have damaged registry files, loads of s**t you don't need running in the background.

You might be able to find some tools on the net I don't know, normally when my comp gets like that I just go for a fresh restart then you know its back to how it was the day you got it.

ive never done it before, so if i created a backup disc, wiped my pc, then put all the data back onto the laptop from my backup disc, would it all go back to where it was originally or will it just be in the same folders as it was on the disc?

it will only be pictures really an maybe a few songs

it would be in what folders it was put onto the CD. I assume you have a windows disc to be able to do it?

My Sony Viao has been slowish from day one. When i click on a link it takes ages. There are hardly any programmes on it. What could i do to try to speed it up?

If its been slowish from day one, it's probably a pretty s**t laptop with not alot of memory, is it running vista or windows 7 or something? The newer OS's need more memory to run properly anyway.

Its loaded to the hilt with sony bloatware. Basically programmes that sony like to have on which are completly useless. A fresh install would help.

Fit an SSD hard drive and some more RAM. Itll be like a new machine.

Install CCLeaner, run that and uninstall all the sony s**t and whatelse you don't need/use. Then run the reg fix tool within CCLeaner. Also install Smart Defrag and deep optimize with that. Uninstall avast and install Malwarebytes.
