Speedo issues

I drive a mk2 ph1 Clio. Having a few issues with the speedo, occasionally while driving it will cut out and sit at 0mph. Originally I thought this may be an issue with the dial cluster. But a few weeks later on a long drive to Gloucester I reset my trip while driving and I was 40 miles into my journey when the speedo cut out and I realised the mileage stopped as well. The speedo didn't work the the other 60 miles and the trip was still at 40. I'm starting to think that maybe there is an issue with a sensor somewhere, I imagine it's a speed sensor or something rather than the dials. Another think that may help diagnose this is, the speedo will sometimes cut out and come back in after a few minutes. But sometimes it will die for ages and will be followed by a electrical fault light. Occasionally it will come back after a couple hours but most of the time I will have to turn the engine off a leave it for a while

Help would be appreciated

Souds like its the speedo pick up on the box, cheap enough check the plug on it also

You able to explain where the plug is on a d7f 8v 1.2 mk2 ph1 engine.

Yeah sounds like a speedo sensor - had similar issues to what you described and a new sensor sorted it...

I have this issue too lately from time to time...

Needle goes to nill, a plus since the odo doesn't add miles!
Or is that illegal... not registering driven miles. :nono:

Will be the speedo sensor, pretty sure its on the bottom of the gearbox somewhere.

Got the same problem with mine, sometimes its fine, other times it stays at 0mph for ages, other times the needle jumps up and down randomly.

It's on top of the box, next to the manifold at the back. It should have a heat shield.
