Speedo problem and question

My Clio 172 MK2 do have problem with the speedo, it just stop sometimes. I checked the forum and it seems it's the speedo sensor problem.

But would like to know if the reversing light switch can cause the same problem. BTW, why a manual drive car need a reversing light switch???

I assume where on about phase 1 cars here as there the only ones which (bar the cups and some reputed early phase 2's) have the speedo sensor on the box. The sensor can come loose the wires go earth themselves or bad eaths etc same for the reversing sensor.

You need the switch for the rear lights to come on to warn people that you reversing its the law.
