Speedo shenanigans!!!

There was i bumbling along in the 172 i got at the weekend doing about 60.

I dropped it from 5th to 3rd and planted my right foot,the engine did its thing,i grinned and looked down at the instruments to see the speedo had gone down to 0!!!

I know i was doing a lot more than that though!!

I have heard whispers about this being a common fault on these cars,can anyone help???
