spraying rear bumper

hi, on my mk2 ph1, there is a black plastic part to the bumper. i want to spray it, and ive got all the paints lined up, obviously im going to take it off and spray it, but do i need to sand the bumper down (wet and dry) until its smooth, or can i simply spray onto the matte surface, i wanna do the same on the side strips too.

help soon would be appreciated as i wanna get car looking tip top asap.

Do a search on here, but I'm pretty sure you have to sand it so there is no more texture, unless you are using a filler primer aswell.
