You need to sand them down first. You need pearl black paint - Halfords sell it pre mixed for 5 quid a tin.

Bob round one weekend if you want I will give you a hand with it.

Someone has a decent guide for spraying plastics in the guide section i think.

Texture needs to be sanded out completely or partially and filler primer used.

Seeing as you like your shiny cars i would get it done professionally.

cheers boys, pre mixed paint? What do i need to do to it? Lol! I am good at bodywork stuff, I do alot of ally repairs & fibreglass so I'll have a bash at It!

Cheers for the offer Luke ;)

The mistakes i learnt first time round was i wet flatted the primer, That was fine... Then i wet flatted the colour, Which i didnt need to imo... Rubbed through to the primer very slightly and only spotted it after first coat of lacquer..

Getting 4 good coats of lacquer on in warm weather is the best, Without having the dust and bugs around if you can help it... clean DIY spray booth.

Second time round i flatted the primer, Not the colour.. Then after 4 coats of lacquer, 3 days to cure, I wet flatted them and machine polished and they look really good.

Yea, I just used all Halfords paint, Grey plastic primer, Renault Black, and Laquer.

As said sanding them down before you spray not only removes the texture, but creates a good surface for the primer to 'key' to!

Well, after speaking to my brother in law (professional sprayer) he said I cant use sandpaper to rub down the plastic strips as it wont smooth them? Said to use filler primer? I dunno what to do now!

I've been quoted £200 for both front & rear bumpers to get colour coded, including the rest of the bumpers as they have a few scrapes etc.

Advice please peoples!

Seriously?

Sandpaper will smooth them, you just need to start with a quite harsh grit and work your way down to a paintable grit, 800/1200 or something.

I've heard of most people start at around 100grit or so, if you find this won't take the pattern out of the plastic, then get harsher, it's just a case of working back up through the grades after.

You can use a filler primer if you wish, but the plastic is quite textured so it may require a fair bit?

Filler primer will sink into the texture in most cases, he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Fine sand paper then platic primer, flatten once hard, 2 coats of basecoat, let dry, 4 coats of lacquer for coverage and shine.
