Spraying wing mirrors

How about if i pull the side strips off, its obviously silver underneath? How easy are they to come off?

What alloys have you got and wat size mate? mine are 15s btw.

Yeah you could do that. Yeah they come off easy, just slide the front trims to the left and once the clips have clicked you just pull it off. With the rear trims slide them to the right and just pull them off to.

I think there called Dare R9s, there black rimmed with fat silver and black spokes, kinda look like the BMW 1s and there 17s mate :).

Yeah should only take a few minutes mate, you might need to push them with something like a screwdriver or a chisel to push them left/right so use a cloth to protect from scratching the car lol.

cant get the bloody things off, trying to push them but cant really get a grip on anything. Am i just pushing them off or pulling them towards me?

You wanna stand at the round edge of each trim and slide it away from you til it clicks, once its clicked just pull them towards you.

Easiest way to get the front door trims off is open the door, remove the little black grommet on the inside edge level to where the sidestrips are and you'll see a little black clip type thing inside the hole the grommet covers. Wedge a screwdriver in behind it and push the handle of the screwdriver towards the door, and the trim should then slide backwards and pop off. I'd put one hand on the strip to make sure you don't drop it when it comes off.

Easiest way to get the back ones off is if you have a rubber mallet or similiar, place the handle of it on the round edge of the strip and give it a good dunt towards the front of the car and it should fall off. Be careful again not to damage any paint on the quarter while you're at it.

Jord how many layers of lacquer did you use on your wing mirrors? And how long between coats of lacquer did you leave it?

used just the one layer of laquer mate, then once dry put some polish and wax on them, come out good mate. If i was doing a part which touches another painted part i would have stuck more layers of laquer on, but wing mirrors should be ok with the 1. (i hope)

When I done mine I sanded down so all the shine had gone (did go through the paint in places), primed it, primed it again, sprayed, sanded down very slightly as it had a bug on it, sprayed, sprayed, lacquered, lacquered, lacquered.

:)

Edit - I left about 30 mins between coats and a couple hours between different cans and a day before going in the car. Remember, very light coats are better.

Are you just ignoring what I've said? Do it that way and they'll be off in seconds.

no im not, ive tried using a hammer to knock the rear one but its not coming atall. the front one how do i get the black thing out.

Just get ur nails behind it and pull it, it's only a little rubber grommet, or a knife would do actually.
