springs

Car  clio cup 172
ok, so my front drivers side spring snapped today. where is the best place to get new ones from? its a 182 non cup.#

i phoned my local renault dealer and they wanted £150 each! surley i can get them cheaper than this? Has anyone got any for sale? or where is best place to get? thanks

get some eibach pros they will only lower a few mm over standard and cost £150 for a set of 4........

are the apex or gmax or jamex any good? funds are a bit low atm so need the cheaper ones really. will they be better than the standard springs? exactly the same to fit etc?

same to fit but the cheap springs will be harsh a foook over bumps, they look great but very little in terms of performance enhancing goes into them......
eibachs and h&rs are progressivly wound so work better through corners!!

if money is tight might be worth putting a wanted ad for some 2nd hand eibachs and im sure someone in the club will be selling a set cheapish........

also, iv been looking on sites and ebay, and it dosent say weather the springs are for the cup version or not? how do you tell?

doesnt matter for just springs, there all the same.
its the shock bolt spacing thats the difference but thats if you want uprated shock absorbers/coilovers......

ok cheers mat, youve been very helpful. Also because the spring snapped, could it have possible damaged the shock too? if i want to lower it, i can use just springs right? no need for different shocks?

you can go for new uprated shocks in a kit with lowering springs and works out pretty good value over buying them separatly at a later date, but your into even more money then (£400ish) i would recomend them if you go lower than 40mm as the shock piston will bottom out and end up leaking (poor ride quality/performance & mot failure) but the kits ive suggested only lower about 25mm which is fine for standard shock absorbers!!
chances are you wont have damaged the shock, pretty common for springs to snap tbh....

i cant go on the for sale section, not a subscriber. do you know any sites that sell springs for ideally less than £60. reason being is i need something on the car to last me 2 weeks, then once im paid gona be looking at getting some coil overs.

cheers

you may be able to pick up some standard springs for that sort of cash but prob not good lowering springs.....

join up for a 10er, shed loads of advice for 1*2 owners in here, best £10 you will spend imo

just found some new standard springs for £40. Would it be ok just to replace the broken 1? or do both need replacing?

need to do them in pairs ideally, oe springs will be rubbish on these cars as they wont be designed to the same spec as the standard ones, if you dont want to pay for genuine then go eibach.

you could go for cheaper springs all round but most offer a big drop with rubbish handling. apex are bareable, jamex are terrible.
