Squeek on Cold Start??

  Add me 2 ur PS3 - Lylak
Hello all,

What could be causing a squeek when I start my car from cold? It goes as soon as I rev it a bit but it is very annoying!! If I bing the car to temperature then turn the engine off then re-start it the noise isn't there??

I've spent loads on this car since I bought it in February and now I get this squeeking issue!! It's only done 27k miles ffs

Any suggestions??

it'll be aux belt squeeling, common on startup, can be down to an ageing battery so extra load is being put on the alternator. I'd change the belt anyway as your car is 6 years old unless you have proof it's been done (cambelt and aux belt shold have been done already) A good motor factor should be able to do a drop test on your battery to tell you it's condition.

I had a new battery in March this year that was a higher rated battery than standard.

The cambelt was changed in February, according to the documentation in my handbook. It was part of the conditions that I got it done before purchasing the car from the garage.

Is this the same as the aux belt? Would it of been done at the same time?

Does it go away when you put your foot on the clutch?

Try starting the car with your foot on the clutch. If there is no squeek then my bet is that its the clutch release bearing.
At the moment, mine gets a really creaky clutch pedal when it gets hot or its been run hard....whether or not this is related to the release bearing remains to be seen!

the aux belt SHOULD have been done at the same time as the cambelt, but it's worth having a look at the condition of it to check it's nice and new

Ok is there an idiots guide as to where it is located in the engine bay?

Cheers for all the replies, I'll monitor the noise, ill test the clutch theory. Plus grab a vid of the noise in the morning.

Heres a pic of an engine bay (not mine), I know the cambelt is on the left, where is the aux belt?

If you look at the left side of the bay you'll see the alternator, and the belt that runs it is the aux belt

The belts looked new, I saw the cambelt at the side of the engine then looked towards the bumper and saw another belt which I guessed to be the aux belt.

The car made the noise this morning (the first time for a few days) for quite a long period of time, but what I did was start the car with the car in gear with the clutch down.

Clutch release bearing?? What does the clutch release bearing do?

Looks ok to me.

BTW Thats the aux belt. The belt in the background is the same belt also!! The cambelt will have teeth on it.
