squeeky belt when starting?

Just got this 172 cup yesterday! 37K 52 plate, Cambelt- service -mot all done before i collected it. Didnt make any noise on drive back from garage but now whenever i start it up (hot or cold) there is a loud squeeking from altonator area! (sounds like a squeeky fanbelt noise) Goes after 30 seconds and sometimes comes back for a minute or so whilst driving. Could this be a loose belt that just needs adjusting? A mate told me tojust spray a bit of WD40 on it but unsure if thats a good idea?!

LOL DO NOT SPRAY WD40 ON IT.

First of all I'd make sure it's the belt, stick your head in the bay whilst someone else starts it from cold. I have this, I thought it was the aux belt so got it changed to no avail, turns out it was coming from the back of the engine bay. Still havent figured out what it is. If it's the aux belt, it would do it all the time.

Yeah I didnt think WD was a good idea!! Ive just had my mate start it whilst i was under bonnet, defo coming from altonator area, only squeeks when I rev it but goes soon after.

get a bit of talc on the belt instead :approve:

will give talc a try later on, if that dont work I'll just give the garage I bought it from a ring.. I'll let u know how I get on. .Thanks chaps
