well i only just got the clamp on - the mechanic had left the joint just sitting there the pratt!!! SO when i loosen the clamp i reckon i can that tube in around another 3cm by using a hammer - which should be just enough for me :)

ill see how i get on next wkend when i get round to it

after reading all your stories i was worried as id just bought a magnex cat-back exhaust 6" oval for my 172 mk2, so when i took my exhaust to have it put on i told the guy putting it on the problem & he used the renault mount the extra magnex mount and he fabricated another 1 its brilliant, able to move slightly but no noise at all & very strong!!! i live in bham & the guys called dusty ,he works for wheelworks in balsal heath. i recomend anyone with this problem who lives in the west midlands area to go and see him!

ps. it sounds and feels brilliant, like having a new car !!!

well i solved it.

I followed gt_gazs suggestions, but still i got a rattle. So me and my old man got pissed off. Drilled 2 holes in the suspension arm running under the car - put a U-shaped clamp over the top of the exhaust and tightened it up (it still allows some free movement which exhausts need i should think)- now it wont f**king move anywhere. No more rattles on the heatshield anyway
