Standard 172 Stereo - Help No Sound!!

Can anybody help?

My standard 172 CD stereo has suddenly stopped making a sound on all sources. All the lights come on the display and the cd changer makes all the normal noises - no sound from the speakers though.

Anyone had similar problems? Got any ideas?

Take it out and check the wiring is all ok on the back. Does it still accept CD's?

I've checked all the wires on the back - all seem okay.
The unit is working exactly as before, just no sound. Its taking CD's, changing tracks, the CD changer is working normally too.

Try an aftermarket head unit and see if you get any sound from that. I'm guessing the amplifier in the STD head unit has packed up, or a fuse has blown somewhere. Do you get a crackling noise if you turn it up to full volume?

Not a sausage if you turn it up. Could well be that the amp has packed up. Don't suppose anyone knows of someone who's got an aftermarket HU and wants to sell their original HU? I'm selling the car in a couple of months time as i'm leaving the country and want to sell it as standard...
