starter motor or igntion barral

im tryin to sort out my car today- im bout 70% sure its the starter motor but i dont want to replace it and it still not start.

whats happend is my car is no longer turning over when i turn the key in the igntion, there is a slight whirring noise and a couple of clicks and thats it- will not start. I took it too a garage where the guy had a brief look and said it mite be the ignition barral, but it was a brief look and when i had taken the car too him the car was starting. Recently when the car wasnt starting i could leave it 30-90 min after the first attempt at starting it, return and the car would start (just about), but that is no longer possible so im assuming that the starter motor/ignition barral has worn out....

it would be a great help if some1 here could help me as i cant get the car off the drive and so would rather buy the parts and fit them with my mates help.

also wot is the difference between the starter motor and ignition barral? wot do each of them do.

my car is a 93 1.4 rt if that helps any further, thanks in advance!

Starter Motor in my opinion, the clicks are the solenoid, which means the barrel is working fine!

thanks nickyb121 !!!

if the starter motor was workin fine and it was the ignition barral at fault tho, wot wud the difference be?

Im guessing thered be no clicks,

check all the wiring to and from as well though - with my old 5gtt I replaced 3 alternators and a starter motor only to find that the whole problem was being caused by a corroded wire (similar symptoms- hit and miss starting)
