Starting/Air-con Problems

fhm

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
Hi, having some annoying issues with my 172 recently. It's really giving me the headaches cos i can't seem to solve the problem and my mechanic also doesn't seem to know what is the issue.

First off, it used to be that i could start it all the time on when i cranked it the first time. then a couple of months ago if would only start if the engine was warm, less than maybe 4 hours since i last drove it, else it would die/not start and on the 2nd crank it would start up immediately (btw i stay in a tropical country so it shouldn't have a problem with a cold start). Then recently, i had to turn the key to the battery mode (dunno wat you call it, but just before you crank it) for about 30 seconds and then it would start up.

The air-con problem could be related i'm not sure but sometimes it would blow hot air at me all the time. I would then turn off the engine at the red light and do the last part and the air-con would then blow cold air.

While i seem to have found a way to make everything work but its bloody irritating to have to wait in the car for 30s before starting up and hoping the air-con is working.

Don't know if might have to do with the ecu or something - i remembered a post about the diagnostic function (pressing the button on the tip of the stalk when starting up) could some one point it out to me?

Hope somebody can help, i've tried changing my spark plugs but it still hasn't worked.

cheers

I'm no expert, but could the 30 second wait thing be related to the immobiliser? Maybe it is taking longer to recognise it's you / the right key / however it works. I guess you could trying using your spare key for a while...

Hopefully someone more qualified might have a better idea.
