Starting an 02 Clio that's been stood 3 years

  Astra h
Hi guys right iv got an 02 Clio Im buying from a mate as a run about for a few months

the car hasn't moved since sept 2009 (went to uni)

Anyway today we set about getting it running, did the usual fresh fuel new battery, checked coolant turned over by hand etc etc (the basics)

Anyway after a few goes she started but kept cutting strait back out

Then after a few more gos and a spot of easy start she ran...but like a bag of nails

Really up and down the revs at idle and if you touched the throttle it would cut out and then started cutting out on it's own

Anyway unplugged and removed the map sensor cleaned that up and popped it back in it then stared up and seemed to idle a bit High still but nothing you can't expect tbh

So left it running upto temp took it up and down his drive a few times (luckily it h
As been left slightly up in the air so brakes were not to badly seized on

It then drove up and down fine and also ran fine aswell

Turned it off. But then got the same problem on start up

Any ideas? Could be the map sensor

It also sounds like it's back firing into the inlet when this happenens aswell however plugs etc all look fine

Im going to order a new map sensor now along with the full works to give it a good service

But any other ideas as to what it could be?

There's no error codes etc as iv had my scanner on it also just before it cuts out a light comes on in centre of the dash (looks like the glow plug light on a diesel)

Car is a 2002 1.2 16v. 45k miles

Cheers for any help

start the car hold the revs on 2500rpm and give a few short blasts of carb cleaner down the throttle body letting the car settle between sprays, and unplug every wiring connector you can find (car turned off;)) and clean the contacts up and put some wd40 on them including a drop in the end of each HT lead
