Static Noise When Listening to the Radio

  PH1 172 Sport
This is really starting to annoy me. I'm starting to think its the Pioneer headunit I've got.

If anybody with good car audio knowledge could help that would be great.

To start off the static noise is not there when listening to MP3's via the USB port.

When I switch to radio I can find pretty much every radio station in the area BUT there is a really annoying background hiss when listening almost like the signal is bad.

So far I have replaced the aerial, the aerial base and the aerial lead all of which made it a little better but its still not perfect.

What should I be checking?

Is it worth running an earth cable to the aerial base instead of relying on the base to chassis connection?

All help appreciated!
