Steering adapter help

  Renault Clio Grande 1.2
Hi,

I've done searches on this forum about this problem but I can't find solutions :(

Well basically I wanted a cheap CD/MP3 player for my Clio (X-reg with extra display) and I want to keep the stalk controls, so I bought a Kenwood WDC-W4031 CD player and adapter from JustKenwood.

The adapter is turned out to be an AutoLeads one and the part numbers are 099-X01 for the multistalk adaptor and the leads are PC99-X12-KEN.

I've connected everything up but the stalk controls don't work :dapprove: The CD player works fine though but I really want the stalk controls to work. I've disconnected and reconnected the damn thing loads of times but still the same result. I'm hoping someone can tell me if i've done something wrong.

I've taken pics of the leads and stuff I've got to work with.

The autolead parts

The kenwood leads

The back of the CD player

The car leads

The only leads that don't go anywhere are the yellow plug and the long red plug.

The yellow plug is the stalk adapter/screen connector but looking at the autoleads adapter thats the type that needs to be connected to the back of the actual display so the dash needs to come off. Not sure on the specifics though.

Hmm that yellow plug is one of the ones I couldn't find a socket to go into. So you guys think I need to take off the dashboard to fit it in? The autoleads manual never mentioned taking off the dash, but then all I got was a double-sided photocopied A4 sheet of paper

Anymore help would be greatly appreciated :)

Top pic with the red connector needs to connect to the back of your display / clock if its the same as pioneer which it looks similar

Dashboard comes off... dead easy to do.

In the top pic the red connector replaces one of the connectors behind the clock in your car and feeds down to the stereo. The reason behind this is because the stalk controls are connected to the clock... not the stereo :)

You do not need to take your dashboard apart. Fitted one of these for my sony HU and it was a 10min job, hardest bit was fitting it all back in. There should be a socket for the yellow plug and if theres not you have the wrong lead. When i was looking for them there was two versions of the lead, one that made the display work and one that made the display and the stalk work. One was about £15ish and the other around the £30 mark. Im guessing you only have the display version.

Thanks for the help so far. Looks like it's a dashboard-off job, which I'll give a go when I have the time. I called up about my adaptor leads and they say it's right for my car.

Oh, and if I ever get the stalk working I promise I'll sign up as a member

this is why you pay to get things fitted professionally, you dont get this problem then :p lol

anyways, the red connector what everyone else said goes to the display at the top of the dash just in case you need some more confirmations.

need to change the red and yellow wires from back of headunit round, should be in the headunit instruction manual, buts its basically pull apart the connectors and connect red to yellow and yellow to red,

hope this makes sense
