Steering angle sensor?

Now then, just fitted a new steering column, but its a mk1 172 colum in my 182... The Traction Control light has come on on the dash... now I've had this fault light on before and Reno replaced the steering angle sensor under warranty (2 months ago)...

Is it a common problem that this sensor konks out every time you unplug it? Does it need to be reset or replaced??

Or does the sensor not work on the 172 column?
