steering controls, head unit*

hi,

im sick of my six changer skipping over bumps (Located under drivers seat) + the standard head unit is the same as the laguna and it looks fairly crap IMO. what brands will remain ALL functionality of the steering controls? a guy at audio car told me sony and kenwood do cos he does work for renualt. So what make to you recommend and what model, i can spend £300-£350, it must have mp3 capability and be able to power all the standard speakers in my clio mkII 172. any ideas (also i dont really need flashy graphics, just one-two line matrix with eq)

Sony M850mp plays mp3s...u will need the connect2 adapter so that stalk controls and display work too...once its all done it all be stunning....like mine...although a lot of people dont rate sony i think its gr8!

the guy at audio car says sonys sound muffled in the midrange? but ive always found them to be great, so i guess its personal taste. M850mp hmmm... im gonna have a look at that one thanks mate.

You know what maybe hes right...but i have the headunit and love it to pieces...looks wicked...remote on steering wheel works beatifully and with connect adapter track title appears in standard clio display aswell as on the hu. All in all...totally trick. However if u got more money u could get the full colour display one with hard drive inside it!!!!

Note the M850mp does not have a removable faceplate...it has a cover instead to go over it which makes it look like its an ash tray or something.

hi,

is it possible to dim the display while driving? + the harddrive ones have full colour screen but i think they are too distracting and the graphics will tire after awhile. i gonna go for the mp850 but im going to wait for a couple of months for a newer version. Maybe with mp4 or DAB (digital radio) also SACD if very lucky.

pioneers also work but can be between 15 & 50 for the adaptor cables depending on how old the head unit is.

Phil, dont think u can remove your retort. I had a pioneer found it impossible to get adapter for stalk and display....found it hard for even stalk.

M850mp already has digital radio. But u may tire of graphics, the hard drive ones have uploadable graphics from ur pc so maybe should consider that.

Also i dont think Sony have a new model planned.

Most brands of HU will work with stearing controls just need to buy the adaptor!

the alpine 9815 would be an excellent choice. thats about your price range. trouble is, the adapter is about an extra £55

Or the top of the range Kenwood jobbie I forget the model KDCPS9** something, can link to both the remote control and the head up display!

Well in my experience finding the adapter for the pioneer unit was a nightmare. Didnt want to lose stalk so didnt bother. Sony workz fine.
